Session proposals are invited for "International Polar Year: Global
Change in Our Communities," the 2008 National Conference of the
Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science
(SACNAS) being held on 9-12 October 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
The conference will focus on global change, particularly climate
change and its impact on all fields of science and all ecosystems and
populations from the poles to the desert. Timed to correspond with
worldwide efforts related to the International Polar Year and
supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, the SACNAS
conference represents an opportunity for the minority scientific
community to have a voice in the direction and application of research
affecting the health of the planet and her people.
Session proposals are invited to demonstrate relationships to polar
research, IPY, sustainability, green research, global change,
traditional ecological knowledge, or related topics (a connection to
the IPY theme is not required). Information about session categories
and how to submit a proposal is available at: http://sacnas.org/confNew/confClient/
For 35 years, SACNAS has been a diverse society promoting
opportunities in advanced science education for Chicano/Latino, Native
American, and other underrepresented minority students. The mission of
SACNAS is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to
pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary
for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels.
