A workshop on subglacial processes and related topics will take place in the Svartisensubglacial laboratory from 25th to 26th March 2009 . The workshop will take place in the laboratory itself, 1.5 km along a tunnel into the mountain and underneath the Engabreen glacier.
The objective of the workshop is to bring together those who have worked in the subglacial laboratory previously with those who have done similar work elsewhere. As well as presenting and discussing new results, there will be the opportunity to develop ideas for future projects and collaborations. The ice tunnel will be opened for the workshop.
Participation is open to everyone, although numbers may be restricted because of limitations on the size of the meeting facilities. For planning purposes registration is required (deadline: 3rd December 2008 ). Please include a couple of lines explaining why you are interested in attending the workshop. Participants will be notified by 10th December whether they will be able to attend.
There will be a small registration fee (details later). Contributions are welcomed in the form of short talks or posters. Those intending to hold a talk should submit abstracts by email to mja@nve.no by 3rd December 2008 . Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length.
Location: the meeting will take place at Svartisen glacier in northern Norway 600 m up a mountain and then walking 1.5 km along a tunnel. A helicopter will be used to assist in getting people up to the tunnel if weather conditions permit, butparticipants must be physically ready to walk up and down to the tunnel if necessary in what may be difficult conditions. The meeting on Thursday 26th will take place near Engabreen glacier, and will include a short excursion to the glacier.
Accommodation: either in shared rooms in a cabin beside Engabreen lake (see http://svartisen.com/en/hytter.php) or in a hotel in nearby Glomfjord. Nearest airport is Bodø.
